The J S Fraser stand at the ESS experienced a high level of serious interest from senior staff from all three of the major emergency services.

The stand featured a brand new MAN based Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service Community Safety Unit and a fully equipped Mercedes Vito Command & Control unit produced in conjunction with Excelerate Technology Ltd. In addition an Iveco based NHS HART Simulation Training vehicle produced by JSF with communications technology from Excelerate featured on the Excelerate stand.

The Fire Education Unit sets new standards for this type of vehicle with advanced electrical circuitry originally developed by JSF for service critical operations within the Formula One market. The computer programmed electronics allow the system to be accurately tailored to a specific rang e of operational needs.

The range of advanced integrated electrical features proved to be of significant interest to many visitors and allow for example the vehicle to operate for at least one hour without using the on board generator or external power, an exceptionally robust emergency start facility virtually guaranteeing the vehicle can be started if the vehicle is mechanically sound and has diesel in the tank. Even the shore line features an indicator light which actually confirms the battery is charging not simply that power is being supplied to the vehicle.

The Excelerate Command & Control vehicle also features many of the JSF electrical design innovations and a full range of advanced communications technology from Excelerate.

The Command & Control vehicle is one of three, in each of the main emergency services livery, and is available for demonstrations and short term hire by any of the three main emergency services. This facility provides clients with the ability to try a full range of communications technologies in an operational environment.

The NHS HART Simulation vehicle features double slide out sides which substantially increase the internal area far beyond that of a conventional 7.5t vehicle.

Internally the vehicle is designed to replicate a bedsit and allow rescue staff to be trained in a smoke filled environment while being monitored by training staff behind a one way screen. A range of advanced technology is included advanced satellite communications and IT equipment from Excelerate.

The Champagne Draw held at the show was won by Phil Kennell, FEM/HMI Manager for Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service.
